One word that describes my personality:
“Resilience is knowing where you came from, but not allowing that to define you. You have the power to be who you want to be.”
My name is Niyell Ascencio. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Carolyn Turner, LPC-S, LSOTP. I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology/Spanish from Texas Lutheran University and my Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University- San Antonio. I am Mexican American and fully bilingual in Spanish.
I have worked in the ESL departments in the school system and also in the The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) emergency shelters for unaccompanied minors. I have also been a Registered Yoga Teacher since 2014.
I am passionate about working with minority communities, and I specialize in Spanish bilingual therapy. My counseling experience consists of working with children and families, higher education students, those struggling with substance abuse, as well as victims of domestic violence and trauma.
I believe every person and their experiences are different. Because of this, I like to offer holistic integrated therapy to treat the whole person by collaborating to build a unique, and personalized treatment for each individual.
